Turkey Hunting Tips
There are so many Turkey Hunting tips out there, it can get nuts trying to figure it all out. These tried and true tips might be all you need to bag the turkey you are hunting this season.

Turkey Decoys and the Hanging Tom

Decoy tip #1 - The tom came into your call and decoy setup only to hang up just out of gun range. Try placing your decoys closer to your location. The tom may hang up but now he should hange up closer then before, bringing him into the distance you need to peeper that head...

Decoy tip #2 - A full stutting turkey will almost always confront another male head on and will approach the male first. When using a tom/jake and hen set, you can place the male decoy where you want the target turkey to be for the shot. facing the decoy towards the hunter should give you the shot you need...

The Color of His Head

Did you know when a turkey's head is full white, he is in the mood for breeding. However if his head is beet red, his is in the mood for a fight. If you have a Jake and hen setup for your decoys, try painting the Jake's head red. When an adult tom sees this, he just might come in running to fight off the youngster.

On another note, if you set a full strut turkey decoy with your hen the white head may be what it takes to get another gobbler's attention. Tricking him to think ther hen is ready to breed should bring him in.

Silent Turkeys
There is nothing more exciting than a turkey gobbling from the roost. Even better if he is gobbling back at your calling. But what do you do when you have silent turkeys? They gobble from the roost and shut right up when they hit the ground, or they just are not vocal at all?

Check Your Choke
amber shooting new shotgunHere is a tip from your old uncle Art. Got my daughter a new Mossberg 500 Bantam. She is smaller in stature than her brother and I, so getting her a turkey gun that fit her better seemed like a good idea. Turkey season is fast coming on us. Finding a load that would pattern good in her new 12ga. was at the top of the list of things to do.
